Just recently, we built a stunning walk-in wardrobe in a newly built family home on the outskirts of Belfast. The wardrobe boasts an abundance of hanging space and soft close drawers. With this walk-in being built in an unused landing alcove, there was plenty of opportunity for our designer to make something quite special of this space.

The Scenario

We met a young family who wanted more storage for clothes in an unused space of their home.  They are also design conscious, so wanted to make the space liveable, stylish and in keeping with the design of their home.

Our challenge

The unused alcove was on their landing, which had sloping ceilings, wall lights, and a window to work around – this was not going to be a straightforward fit. However, the design team at Sliderobes love a challenge and came up with an array of practical ideas for a walk-in wardrobe that made great use of the space.

Talking to the family about what they wanted storage for, and how much space was needed, really helped with the wardrobe design. Choosing the style and finish of their interior and doors was the fun part. They were delighted to see we had options that complimented their floors and bannisters in the hallway. The rich walnut tones of the wardrobe blend beautifully with the interior of the home.

How we made it bespoke

A beautiful and interesting feature of the design is the window seat. Incorporating drawers in the seat itself means it is not only a comfortable place to sit, but also gives extra storage. Another feature that is individual to this home are the front facing library book-end panels. The clever design means that two sliding doors can glide in behind the book-end panels allowing the space to be more open. The stunning frosted glass doors are perfect for letting light shine through from the window, whilst creating a luxurious and comfortable feel and space.
Open shelves throughout are a great way to make a walk-in wardrobe feel more roomy. Shelving without backs can be made a special feature by adding a dramatic wallpaper in behind. If you look closely, you will see how the beautifully curved pelmet hugs the awkward angle of the sloping ceiling in this space.  Not easy to do, but definitely worth the extra effort.

5 Star Review

Here’s what the family had to say about their experience with Sliderobes.

“I would give Sliderobes 6 stars if I could!

My new walk in wardrobe is amazing and has completely transformed my landing area. I never imagined it would look so beautiful.  Just look at the photos!  It has everything. I bring all of my friends up to see it!

We have sloped ceilings, plugs and light fittings within the walls which I was worried about, but Sliderobes reassured me they could work around this and fit them all into the design. The window seat was their idea - not only is it beautiful, but it gives me an extra 4 drawers. I now have more space than I ever imagined and I even have a pull out mirror to dry my hair in the mornings! The quality of my wardrobe is second to none, and the stunning glass doors just set it off.”
