For two decades, PANTONE has chosen an official colour of the year. 2020’s pick is Classic Blue - PANTONE 19-4050 to be precise. Classic Blue instils a sense of calm - but also confidence. It's a bold colour that makes a statement, yet as the name suggests, it is classic and timeless. This blue is reminiscent of the sky at dusk, bringing peace and stillness.
Merry and Bright
According to PANTONE, the 2020 colour palette we'll see on the catwalks, 'expresses our desire for a sense of the familiar.' We'll see a lot of bright, primary colours including firey scarlets, sizzling saffrons and of course, classic blues. Coral, which was PANTONE's 2019 colour will remain popular, alongside more muted shades.
Drawing inspiration from nature, another big colour palette for 2020 will focus on natural greens, browns and beiges. But these colours are far from bland. Offering a sense of calmness and harmony, these earthy tones are perfect for the bedroom. Add a pop of colour to this calming palette with bright cushions or bed linen.
Clashing colours are set to be on-trend in 2020 - including red on pink! This is a bold trend that is easily incorporated into your home. Choose bright clashing cushions or patterns to make a statement. If that's a little too scary, trying pairing colours at the opposite ends of the colour wheel - such as navy blue with rust or mustard.
Mixed metals have been fashionable for a number of years, and it's one trend that isn't disappearing in 2020. Mix copper and steel, or gold and silver. Be sure not to mix more than three metals, or your decor might start to look a little too busy. Adding gold accents to your bedroom or living space adds a little touch of luxe.
